About the author
Hi,
I’m Matt McGinty (MNCS, Accredited)
I work with individuals and couples who feel weighed down by stress, anxiety, low mood, anger, or relationship difficulties. My role is to provide a safe, supportive space where you can be yourself without judgement, explore what’s troubling you, and discover practical ways forward.
I know first-hand how overwhelming life can feel when panic, despair, or hopelessness take over. In the past I’ve struggled with stress and anxiety myself — which means I understand how hard it is when your mind feels like the enemy. But I also know that change is possible, and that with the right support you can find peace, strength, and purpose again.

My Approach
I don’t believe therapy should be one-size-fits-all. Every person and couple is different, so I adapt my approach to fit your needs.
Sometimes that means using tools from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to challenge unhelpful thoughts. Other times it’s working with mindfulness to manage anxiety, or drawing on existential therapy to explore meaning and life direction. In couples counselling, I often use research-based Gottman methods to help partners rebuild trust and communication.
Whatever we focus on, my goal is always the same: to help you feel calmer, stronger, and more able to handle life’s challenges.

Check what my clients say about me

Mental Wellness Counselling has taught me to be more aware of my thought patterns and see more clearly how they affect my responses to situations. I think I have learnt to take more time out to look after me and the experience has been and will continue to be very beneficial.

I have learnt and gained so much from the coaching Matt gave it is difficult to summarise it, but in the last couple of months I have felt more awake again, I have begun enjoying things I used to enjoy, I have space in my mind for others and I have energy that I had lost to be able to do anything other than ‘auto pilot’. Thank you so much.

If you are looking for support and guidance or simply someone kind and empathetic to talk to then I would thoroughly recommend Matt at Mental Wellness Counselling. The simple act of talking things through with someone impartial can teach you so much about yourself and the way your thoughts and actions influence one another. Matt has always made me feel welcome and comfortable to be able to discuss anything on my mind. The process has been highly beneficial for me and I am grateful for his support.
